There is always a chance that someone could get your password and log into your online account. And, Facebook is no exception.
Hackers can compromise a Facebook account in different ways. For example, spammers hack Facebook accounts to gain access to your followings. Similarly, automatic logins through Facebook allow Hackers to access many different websites once they have taken over your Facebook account. Your account also provides Hackers with a lot of personal information about you that can be used to steal your identity.
However, there is a simple way to check if you are concerned that your account has been compromised. Go to the arrow in the top left corner of your Facebook page and click on it. In the menu, select Settings. A new menu will appear. Select Security and then Where you are logged in.
You will be presented with a list of all the devices you have connected to and their locations. If there is one that you are unable to identify, there is a chance that you have been hacked. If you notice anything that is not yours, click the End Activity button on the right side of the log. The hacker will be logged out, instantly.
Additionally, below are some other ways to know if your account has been hacked:
- Your name, birthday, email, or password has changed
- Someone sent friend requests to people you don't know
- The messages were sent from your account, but you didn't write them
- The messages that appear on your Timeline were not posted by you
The steps you need to follow if your Facebook account has been given away
Once you click End Activity, change password immediately. Then, ask Facebook for help. In case you've been a victim, Facebook has a system to help you.
Go to Facebook's help page, click I think my account was hacked or someone is using it without my permission, and then click Secure it. Facebook will take you to a page where you can log in and then follow the steps to secure your account.
