Ubuntu developers have been working on Click Packages lately and they are now available for the Ubuntu Touch platform.
Click packages have worked wonders on Ubuntu Touch, as it is an operating system that is now starting to develop and needs more applications for its official launch.
Click packages have significantly shortened the process of entering the Ubuntu store and this feature is perhaps one of the most important aspects of packages. They are also more secure than regular packages, as they do not interact with the system .
Linux users know about DEB, RPM, RUN, SH and a host of other files, and they all have a reason for being there. Ubuntu uses the DEB format because it's based on Debian , but now the creators want to allow developers to run their applications on the desktop version of the operating system using this new type of package. The main feature that really makes the difference is the absence of dependencies , which have always been a problem.
Dependencies a big issue when users had to compile their applications and operating systems, as problems arose if a library. Now, Click packages address this issue, at least for Ubuntu.
“ Click packages are part of the new technology driving the next version of Ubuntu on phones and desktops. In short, Click packages allow application developers to easily package and deliver application updates regardless of the distribution release or archive,” wrote Canonical in an article.
There is no exact timeline for the implementation of Click packages for Ubuntu systems , but the distribution will be done slowly and in small steps. At the moment, Ubuntu Unity 8 is not yet usable, but this issue will be fixed soon.
