The reopening of the electronic crime prosecution department of the Thessaloniki Police is expected next month, which was abolished 2.5 years ago, due to the restructuring of the police, with the services since then being transferred to Athens.

As reported by APE-MPE, the reopening of the department was announced by the head of the electronic crime prosecution sub-directorate, Brigadier General Manolis Sfakianakis, on the sidelines of an event organized by the Thessaloniki Police Club, on the topic of safe Internet browsing.

According to Mr. Sfakianakis, within the next 20 days, the operation of this specific service will begin again, which will deal with cases concerning Northern Greece.

The brigadier general, during his speech, referred to the "traps" of the Internet, referring to cases of cybercrime, with victims being teenagers who were targeted by pedophiles or who fell victim to cyber bullying.

He recommended special attention to users of social media. It is noteworthy that Facebook alone has five million users in our country, a number that gives it the lead at a pan-European level, while 680,000 Greeks use Twitter services.

According to the Brigadier General, cases of cyber-bullying with perpetrators and victims who are minors are constantly increasing. "It is the 'bustling' between students through the Internet," said M. Sfakianakis, who emphasized that because of it, around 20,000 children worldwide do not want to go to school every day.

He was particularly concerned about the internet addiction that many minors exhibit, and according to M. Sfakianakis, it reaches the limits of mental disorder.
