F-Secure launches free Content Blocker for iOS

The F-Secure ad blocker iOS app is designed to thwart annoying ads and block third-party tracking.

F-Secure, a Finnish online privacy insurance company, just announced on blog that it has released its own iOS Content Blocker for the Safari web browser, for Apple's mobile devices.

F-Secure Adblocker released by F-Secure is a free application available for download from Apple's App Store and is designed to block intrusive ads from loading in your browser, as well as prevent third-party tracking.

The F-Secure makes use of the filter list created and maintained by the F-Secure Cloud Security team, and works by automatically blocking all content served by any of the servers on the list.

"There are many ways advertising is regulated in other types of media, so the idea that people shouldn't have some way to moderate the advertising content they see online is a bit silly," said F-Secure Security Advisor Sean Sullivan.

Safari content blockers allow iOS users to browse the web faster, while protecting their privacy by blocking location services.

Sean Sullivan also stated that “As far as turning down the volume of a TV commercial is concerned, it’s perfectly fine, and volume levels are often adjusted so that ads aren’t too intrusive. Bringing ad blocking to digital media gives people a way to turn down the noise.”.

Just like all content blockers on the iOS platform, after the release of iOS 9, F-Secure adblocker will make sure that all websites load faster and that the battery life of your iOS device will not be harmed by unnecessary loading of ad content.

You can download F-Secure adblocker 1.0.4 from the iOS App Store as long as you agree to F-Secure's privacy policy.

Additionally, you can install F-Secure adblocker for iOS on any iPhone 5S or later, any iPad Air, as well as 6th generation iPod touchs as long as you are running at least iOS 9.0 or later.
