of plastic Roads in the future will be made
The company VolkerWessels in Rotterdam the Netherlands, is studying an innovative idea for road construction. The material from which the roads will be made is a type of plastic made from recycled bottles. The Dutch city is strongly supporting this new idea by allowing the company to carry out tests in real conditions.
The plasticseems to have many benefits compared to asphalt. Much less maintenance and technical works are required as the new material will be much lighter and will be manufactured directly in large blocks from the factory that will be placed without much effort. These techniques are expected to reduce labor costs and process time to a minimum. So the gains of the new technology are expected to be significant.
The new material will be able to withstand more extreme temperatures from -40 to 80 degrees Celsius.
Although the program is in an experimental stage and studies are still being conducted, the company claims that within 3 years the idea will be able to be implemented commercially.
