Millions of IDs and Passwords for accessing online shopping sites leaked
The Metropolitan Police Department has found the IDs and passwords of 5.06 million people on central computer servers, which are related to unauthorized access via a proxy server carried out by a Chinese group, according to a report by Japan News.
During the investigation, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) found that the Chinese fraud group had obtained the personal data of approximately 60,000 people and was using it to log in to online shopping sites. The central server contained three types of hacking tools.
Proxy servers contain computer code that automatically checks for any unauthorized access attempts to online shopping sites, and whether specific IDs and passwords can be used.
There have been no reports of financial loss from the illegal use of IDs and passwords, and businesses have been asked to check whether any purchases were made using the stolen personal information of users.
A senior LINE official stated:
"It is very sad that our customers' personal data was illegally leaked and could be used improperly. We wish to implement strict security measures and make efforts to improve our services."
