TV5Monde attacked by Islamist hackers
French television network TV5MONDE said it had suffered an "unprecedented" attack by hackers claiming to belong to the Islamic State (IS).
The French television network reports that the TV station itself, its website and social media accounts were all attacked
The hackers also published documents purporting to be the identity cards of relatives of French soldiers participating in operations against the Islamic State.
TV5MONDE regained control of most of its sites approximately two hours after the start of the attack.
Its digital director, Helene Zemmour, described this attack as “unprecedented and large-scale.”.
A message posted by the hackers on TV5MONDE's Facebook reads: "The CyberCaliphate continues its cyberjihad against the enemies of the Islamic State."
They also replaced TV5MONDE's social media profile pictures with the image of a masked Islamist warrior.
France is part of the US-led coalition and is conducting airstrikes against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
In January, the Twitter and YouTube accounts of the US military command were hit by hackers . But Centcom said it was “cyber-vandalism” and not a serious data breach.
