More than 20,000 Android devices have already «infected» by an app that is purported to allow downloading the movie and aims at intercepting banking data
As with many events that cause global impact, with the film "The Interview," some fraudsters are attempting to exploit the increased public interest.
Researchers identified an app for devices with the Android operating system, which is purported to allow users to instantly download the movie. Instead’ of that, the app aims to intercept banking data, which users may at some point import into their mobile devices.
According to digital security researcher Graham Cluley, the app targets customers of Korean banks and Citibank. More than 20,000 devices are estimated to have been «infected» with this specific trojan.
Also, this application was already recorded by McAfee as a threat in the Android/Badaccents category.
