Two hackers arrested for attacks on Xbox and PlayStation

Playstation hacker attacks

A 22-year-old Englishman and a Finnish man with the nickname Ryan, who appear to be members of the hacking group that claimed responsibility for the attacks on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live on Christmas Day, have been arrested on the outskirts of London and Dallas.

Vinnie Omari, 22, was arrested after English police raided his home and was released on bail the next day. Omari, who identifies himself as a member of the  Lizard Squad, sent a photo of the search warrant to dailydot.com, claiming that officers seized an Xbox One, phones, laptops, USB sticks and other equipment.

Thames Valley Police said Vinnie Omari was arrested on suspicion of fraud and breaching the Computer Fraud Act in connection with a PayPal fraud case that took place between 2013 and the summer of 2014.

As posted on Twitter by user @LizardMafia, another member of the group was arrested by the FBI upon arriving by plane in Dallas. The Lizard Squad said it was a Finnish citizen with the alias Ryan, who was flying from country to country and his arrest is allegedly related to laundering large sums of money via cards.

Meanwhile, Lizard Squad has begun illegally offering a “tool” for launching DDoS attacks against any target as a service. They call it Lizard Stresser, and prices range from $6 to $500, depending on the scope of the attack. A member of the group, nicknamed Dragon, told dailydot.com that the attacks on the Xbox and PlayStation networks were nothing more than a big marketing operation by Lizard Stresser.
