Google has made a move that is sure to upset many in the anti-piracy community who believe it is not doing enough to put an end to these activities .
The search engine now displays a custom Pirate Bay search box directly on its results page, along with autocomplete.
If you search for “The Pirate Bay” on Google, you will see the link to the website, the new search box, and two other links that take you to the top 100 Pirate Bay torrents and the website.
Google offers a similar service in many countries, so this is nothing new for the company. What is new, however, is that the search giant is offering the service for a torrent website, especially considering the pressure that has been placed on the company.
The entertainment industry has come out against Google on several occasions in recent months, receiving notices that it is not doing enough to censor torrent sites. They not only want the links removed, but also want Google to stop showing them on sites like The Pirate Bay altogether.
This, of course, goes against what Google stands for – delivering what users are looking for. Aside from filtering out child abuse sites, Google wants its users to find anything and refuses to change the algorithm. If a copyright group or someone else asks them to remove a link, they will do so, but nothing more.
