Although the release of Windows 9 , many users are now upgrading their software to Windows 8.1. September statistics confirm that Windows 8.1 is spreading rapidly and will soon have the same market share as Windows XP. Specifically:
Windows 8.1 is used at 10.65% while Windows XP, despite no longer being supported by Microsoft, is used at 11.82%. Windows 7 still holds the largest market share, with 55.07%. Windows 8 is far behind with a market share of just 5.99%.
Windows XP survives
Although Microsoft stopped supporting it in 2014, Windows XP still has a significant market share. This share, according to estimates, will continue to be high for the following reason: Older computers cannot support the new Windows without a hardware upgrade. Hardware upgrades are expensive and in some cases can be considered unprofitable.
Windows 9 is likely to help in this direction, as its design is said to motivate many users to upgrade. The beta version of Windows 9 is expected at the end of the month.
