Virtual Desktops and removal of the Charm bar in Windows 9

increasingly
moving away from its original vision with Windows 8, apparently giving priority to the desktop for the upcoming new Windows.

The upcoming version of the company's operating system will feature a new Start Menu, will offer "windowed" functionality for modern applications (Modern UI apps) but will not have the familiar Charms bar. The Charms bar (appears when you drag the mouse up from the top or bottom right corner of the screen) that allowed users to access the Start Screen, devices or settings while also providing the ability to search was useful on computers with touchscreens, but its operation with a mouse and keyboard was always... strange.

According to ZDNet, Microsoft is expected to drop the title bar in the next version of Windows, codenamed Threshold (officially expected to be called Windows 9). According to ZDNet, modern Windows applications will have a title bar that includes a menu, with elements from the Charms bar, while developers will need to add features to their applications to enable sharing. This change is likely due to the fact that Microsoft wants the new modern Windows 8 applications to run in a windowed environment like traditional applications in order to significantly improve the user experience with a keyboard and mouse. In addition to the above, we learn that Windows 9 will feature “virtual desktops”.

While Apple's OS X users have been able to enjoy this feature for some time, Windows users will have to use third-party applications to add similar functionality. Windows 9 users will be able to create separate active desktops and switch between them using a button on the taskbar. A "Preview" version of Windows 9 is expected to be available later this year, allowing users and businesses to try out the new features of Microsoft's operating system before it is released in spring 201
