Google has upgraded the Hangouts application for Android and iOS, enabling phone calls via WiFi and 3G to landlines and mobiles in Greece .
Essentially, it is about integrating Google Voice into the Hangouts application , enabling calls to mobile and landline phones in Greece, via Android mobile or iPhone , with the aim of competing with Skype .
Google Voice was already operating in Greece, but it was used through Gmail and the appropriate plugin , while now it will be used directly through the smartphone.
Also, calling other Hangouts users is free, while the prices for calls to landlines and mobiles in our country are set at €0.02 per minute for calls to landlines and €0.03 per minute for calls to mobiles, excluding VAT.
The corresponding prices on Skype are €0.02 per minute for calls to landlines and €0.068 per minute for calls to mobiles.
From the Google Voice page, the user can add the amounts of €10, €25 and €50 and if they are not satisfied, they can get the remaining amount back within one year from the day they added it.
Finally, in addition to this new Hangouts feature that targets Skype and Microsoft primarily and Viber and WhatsApp secondarily, Google has also changed the appearance of the application with the new Material Design, expected in the upcoming AndroidL.
In addition to the Hangouts app (Android – iPhone), only Android users will need to install the Hangouts Dialer.
