Roombots will have the ability to change their shape with spoken commands to transform into different pieces of furniture that move on their own.
Researchers from the Swiss BioRob laboratory at the École Polytechnique de Lausanne (EPFL) have built 22-centimeter-long robots - Roombots - that resemble dice and are connected to each other while having the ability to change their shape in order to transform into different pieces of furniture.
Each of the Roombots is equipped with a battery and three motors, which allow it to rotate and move. Their creators believe that the robotic furniture could help people with disabilities or the elderly, since they can simply give them verbal commands, asking them to transform or move around the house.
To do this, their initiators are looking for the appropriate software so that the furniture robots can be brought to market.
