Washington is considering using visa restrictions on Chinese nationals attending popular hacking conferences in Las Vegas, as part of a broader effort to curb Chinese cyber espionage.
One official said Washington could use visa restrictions and other measures to prevent Chinese people from attending the August Def Con and Black Hat. This will continue to put pressure on China, especially after the US charged five Chinese military officials with hacking into American companies to steal trade secrets. China has denied the charges, saying they were “set up.”
Organizers of the two conferences said they knew nothing about any effort from Washington, but believed that restricting participation from China would be a bad idea.
