For the third time in the last four weeks, Microsoft is extending the deadline for users to mandatory migrate to Windows 8.1 Update, setting the deadline as June 10.
Last Monday, just one day before the established Patch Tuesday, Microsoft announced to consumers that they still have four weeks to move from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 Update, noting that the upgrade is a prerequisite for receiving future updates.
"We have decided to extend the deadline for our customers to upgrade their devices to Windows 8.1 Update to receive security updates for an additional 30 days, until June 10," said Microsoft spokesman Brandon LeBlanc.
"As previously stated, customers who do not upgrade their devices to Windows 8.1 Update by the new deadline will no longer receive updates."
LeBlanc justified the company's decision to extend the deadline, stating very generally that "while the majority of users have received the update, we recognize that this is not yet the case for everyone.".
