YouTube Turkey – the country is demanding the removal of “criminal content” from the social network in order to lift the ban.
The Institute of Technology and Communications announced a few days ago that the ban will remain in effect as long as YouTube refuses to satisfy the government's request to remove the 15 videos in question.
“Some content has already been removed, but YouTube is blocking some links only for users in Turkey, which remain open in other countries as well. As of March 27, a total of 151 links have been identified on the website that transmit the same criminal content,” a spokesperson for the institute said.
The statement is incredibly ironic given that the videos show Turkish officials discussing the “arguments” they could use to justify military intervention in Syria.
Google Court , hoping to have it rule that the removal of the videos in question constitutes censorship and violates the right to free speech. The court ruled in favor of lifting the Twitter block just last week.
