What Crittercism's research shows about Android and iOS apps

Apps running the latest Android operating system are more stable than their iOS counterparts, according to an extensive report by Crittercism. The company has a unique mobile application performance management (mAPM) solution capable of processing 30,000 queries per second from over 1 billion users in real time.

As can be seen in the graphs, the crash rate in the latest versions of Android (KitKat, Jelly Bean and Ice Cream Sandwich) reaches only 0.7%.

The company compiled the first results in a report that was particularly interesting. According to it, we have:

iOS Findings:

– iOS 7.1 has the lowest crash rate
– iPhone 5 has the lowest crash rate
– iPhone apps are more stable than iPad apps
– Older iPads crash more often
– iOS 6 has a crash rate of 2.5%
– iOS 7 has a crash rate of 2.1%
– iOS 7.1 is the company's most stable software with crashes that do not exceed 1.6%

Android Findings:

– Gingerbread has the highest crash rate
– Samsung has the most stable Android tablets and smartphones
– Android tablets crash more than Android smartphones.
– Gingerbread apps crash at a rate of 1.7%
– KitKat, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean crash at a rate of 0.7% and are more stable – than any version of iOS.
