Facebook's strategy for its photography app is changing
Remember how much Mark Zuckerberg paid to buy Instagram? A billion dollars! From the very beginning of the acquisition, we predicted that the popular photography app would be flooded with ads to make Facebook's investment pay off.
The truth is that so far the ads aren't many and they're certainly not annoying. However, the brand new deal that Zuckerberg signed with advertising company Omnicom is expected to change the landscape drastically.
The advertising package that Omnicom will channel to Instagram costs 100 million dollars. This means that in order for Facebook to get back 10% of its investment, we will "sigh" seeing unsightly pop-ups and out-of-place suggested posts in our Instagram feed. The sequel is expected to be even more "advertising" for Instagram.
