Data from more than 100 million credit cards was collected by an employee of the state Korean Credit Bureau (Korea Credit Bureau) in an eavesdropping scandal that has shaken South Korea.

As it became known, among the compromised accounts are those of the country's president Park Geun-hye, as well as the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

The country's chief prosecutor announced that the employee accused of the interceptions copied the valuable information onto a USB stick in 2012 and then did not hesitate to sell it to loan‑providing companies.

The massive theft of personal data was finally detected by the banks a year later, and the prosecutorial investigation into the scandal began.
