It will showcase 4K material at the CES exhibition
The new display screens have raised the resolution bar from Full HD to the famous "4K", which means a horizontal resolution of at least 4,000 pixels. Naturally, YouTube could not sit idly by in this new technological challenge. According to a report by gigaom.com, the popular Google service is preparing to present demo material with the 4K resolution option at the upcoming CES exhibition at the stands of major manufacturers.
It is worth noting that the implementation will be based on the new VP9 format, which Google developed against H.265.
However, Francisco Varela, a senior YouTube executive, noted in a recent statement that this is not a "war between different video codecs," while leaving open the possibility of supporting H.265.
