Google ordered to pay $17 million for bypassing Safari security settings

Following settlements, Google has agreed to pay $17 million to 37 US states, as well as the District of Columbia, for ignoring anti-tracking protocols contained in Apple's Safari browser.

According to New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, state prosecutors allege that Google illegally placed cookies on users' search engines when they visited websites through the Internet giant between 2011 and 2012.
