Every year the dimensions of piracy increase and accordingly the efforts of search engines to limit it are strengthened.
Indeed, as the TorrentFreak website reports, Google has removed more than 200 million pirated links from its search engine this year. Most of the requests it received came from the RIAA and BPI, while the most pirated website was found to be FilesTube with more than 7 million files removed.
In total, Google received 202,230,523 takedown requests and managed to satisfy the vast majority of them, specifically 99%. However, companies are far from satisfied with Google asking the search giant to take down entire domains and not individual links.
It is worth noting that in 2011, the removal requests received by Google did not exceed 10 million.
