After pledging donations to help victims of the recent fire in Hong Kong, Apple CEO Tim Cookannounced that the company will also donate to relief and reconstruction efforts in several Asian countries. Heavy rains in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka have caused widespread damage and are believed to be responsible for the deaths of at least 1,200 people.

Floods, landslides, strong winds and other hazards have caused widespread displacement, disrupted agriculture and devastated entire communities. Apple has pledged to help with relief efforts, as it does in emergencies and natural disasters around the world.

Through his X account, Apple CEO Tim Cook said: “Storms in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka have devastated communities. At Apple, our thoughts are with everyone affected and we will be donating to relief and recovery efforts.”

Its announcement comes just days after a similar pledge of helpfollowing the devastating fire at a residential complex in Hong Kong. A few months earlier, the company had pledged to help those affected by Typhoon Melissa.
Apple also has an internal giving program called Employee Giving, which has raised more than $880 million to date through a matching donation policy. The program allows employees to make donations to charities and Apple matches the amount of those donations, amplifying the impact of their charitable giving.
