Google has announced several new features coming to the Google Maps app , including , Gemini-powered tips popular locations , and estimates for the availability of electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

Google Maps: Tips via Gemini

When you search for places in the Google Maps app, such as restaurants or hotels, there's now a 'Know Before You Go' section powered by Gemini. The section provides tips on what to expect, drawing on user reviews and other online content. It can include tips on how to make a reservation, what the secret dishes on the menu are, where to park, and many other useful things.

Popular places

The updated 'Explore' tab features popular restaurants, activities and popular locations near you. You can see the new suggestions by swiping up, with curated lists from trusted locations more easily accessible.

Availability of electric vehicle chargers

Electric vehicle owners already have access to real-time information that tells them whether charging locations have a spot available. However, Google Maps will now use AI to predict how many chargers are likely to be available when you arrive at a charging location. Google says the feature uses AI to analyze historical and real-world charger availability data so you can avoid queues at charging stations.

Finally, Google is now adding support for sharing reviews without using your real name. Users can choose a nickname and profile picture to be associated with their reviews.

Insider tips are available for iOS users, while the updated 'Explore' tab and the option to change review names will be released this month. Expected charger availability will initially be limited to Android Auto and cars with Google services built-in, but the functionality could eventually expand.
