Starting with the 2023 MLS season, streaming MLS games required an MLS Season Pass, which was available standalone or at a discount for Apple TV subscribers. But starting next year, as with the upcoming F1 streaming for Apple TV subscribers, MLS games will be integrated directly into Apple TV.

“Starting next season, fans will be able to watch every regular season game, the annual Leagues Cup tournament, the MLS All-Star Game, the Campeones Cup, the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and more — all included with an Apple TV subscription,” according to Apple’s press release. “The standalone MLS Season Pass subscription in the Apple TV app will end at the end of the 2025 season.”

The official announcement of the change followed reports earlier on Thursday that it was in the works. Apple's move is expected to significantly boost the value of its Apple TV subscription, giving users access to a wide range of sporting events at no additional cost. Apple's strategy to integrate sporting events into its platform reflects the company's growing focus on live streaming as it seeks to compete with other streaming platforms that offer similar services.

The partnership with MLS is part of Apple’s broader strategy to expand the content it offers to its subscribers by incorporating high-profile sporting events. This move is expected to attract more subscribers to Apple TV, as soccer fans in the United States and around the world will be able to enjoy their favorite games without having to pay extra.

The decision to offer MLS at no additional cost is also a response to growing consumer demand for more comprehensive and affordable streaming services. As competition in the streaming services space continues to increase, Apple is seeking to differentiate itself by offering unique content not available elsewhere.

The MLS partnership is just the beginning, as Apple is looking into further partnerships with other sports leagues and organizations to expand its sports content. This strategy could change the landscape of streaming services as more consumers seek out complete solutions for their entertainment.
