BK Technologies: Data and IT systems breach

BK Technologies Corporation, a provider of communications equipment for public safety and government services, disclosed a cybersecurity incident in which an unauthorized user breached IT systems and possibly extracted sensitive data.

In a recent Form 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company confirmed that it detected suspicious activity on or about September 20, 2025.

The investigation is ongoing, but initial findings suggest that data about current and former employees may have been compromised.

Upon recognizing the potential intrusion, BK Technologies took immediate steps to mitigate the threat. The company isolated the affected systems IT to stop any further unauthorized activity and prevent lateral movement on its network.

To support its internal teams, BK Technologies worked with external cybersecurity consultants to conduct a thorough investigation. According to the filing, these containment and remediation efforts were successful in removing the perpetrator from the company’s environment.

While the incident caused minor outages to a limited number of non-critical systems, the company said its ability to access the affected information has been restored and its core business operations have continued without significant disruption.

Although business continuity was maintained, the investigation has confirmed that the attackers likely gained access and obtained non-public information stored on the company's systems. The primary concern is the potential exposure of data employee. According to the announcement, the extracted files may contain records relating to individuals who are or were formerly employees of BK Technologies.

The company continues to investigate the nature and full extent of the data theft to understand exactly what information was compromised. In accordance with its legal and regulatory obligations, BK Technologies has already reported the incident to law enforcement and plans to provide formal notification to all affected parties and relevant regulators.

Despite the data breach, BK Technologies does not expect a material impact on its financial condition or operating results. The company stated in its SEC filing that a significant portion of the direct expenses related to containment, investigation and remediation of the incident will be covered by insurance.
