Motorola's new Moto G series of phones for 2024 offers advanced features and affordable prices.
Motorola is releasing the 2024 version of its budget phone “Moto G.” Today we have two versions, the “Moto G 5G 2024” and the “Moto G Power 5G 2024” to choose from. The base version of the Moto G 2024 costs $199.99, while the Power version is $299.99.

Thespecs on the base Moto G are very different. We have a 6.6-inch low-res, high-refresh rate 120 Hz, 1612x720 LCD display and a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1. The phone has 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a 5000 mAh battery with 18W charging. You get a lot of extras: a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC (!), a fingerprint reader on the side and a microSD slot. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 is a cheap processor option from Qualcomm, a 6nm processor with two Cortex A78 CPUs and six A55 CPUs. It seems criminal that these cheap Qualcomm processors prioritize 5G bands that are barely noticeable and only support 802.11ac, also known as “Wi-Fi 5”, which first appeared in smartphones in 2013.

On the back of the base Moto G model is a real camera, a 50MP sensor on the back and a 2MP “macro” sensor just for show. The front camera is 8MP. The 2024 Moto G and Moto G Power have similar names but share almost no components. The Power version has a 6.7-inch high-resolution 2400x1080 LCD display, a 120Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 5000mAh battery. The MediaTek processor is similar to Qualcomm – a 6nm processor with two Cortex A78 CPUs and six A55 CPUs. The “Power” name is only justified by the faster 30W charging and the amazing included 15W wireless charging. It has all the same extra features as the base model and the same 11-year-old Wi-Fi standard. The cameras are a 50MP sensor and 8MP macro on the rear and a 16MP sensor on the front.
The designs of both phones look almost identical, with flat screens on the front, asymmetrical bezels with a larger bottom, and flat sides. The backs have a “vegan leather” treatment, meaning plastic that’s been treated to give a leather-like feel, and while they’re not waterproof, Motorola says they’re “splash-resistant.” Both phones warn that you may not get a full-power charger in the box, depending on your carrier and region, so be careful.

Both phones will be available on several low-cost prepaid carriers, along with unlocked sales at Amazon, Motorola.com, and Best Buy. The Power version will be available first on Cricket on March 22 with “later availability” on other carriers, and unlocked sales begin on March 29. The base version starts sales on March 21, while unlocked sales will have to wait until May 2.
