This could be significant, as the dual-motor version of the electric SUV is popular in the cold region. In a surprise update, Tesla has slashed the price of the Model Y in Canada on its online vehicle configurator.
The Model Y RWD, the base model of the electric SUV, now starts at $53,990 Canadian dollars – down $4,000. The Model Y Dual Motor All-Wheel-Drive Long Range also received a $4,000 price cut. It now starts at $63,990.
The new lower price for the popular SUV is $54,000, and a $5,000 Federal Tax Credit is available – resulting in a starting price of just $49,000 CAD.

In addition, several provinces offer additional subsidies beyond this.
When it comes to provincial subsidies, Quebec has been and remains the most generous in encouraging electric vehicle sales. It offers a $7,000 subsidy, which can be combined with the federal subsidy. That means the Model Y starts at $42,000 CAD in Quebec.

But perhaps more importantly, the Model Y AWD is now cheaper than $65,000, which is the price threshold for an electric vehicle to be eligible for the Quebec incentive.
The vehicle has not yet been added to the list of eligible vehicles, but will likely be added in the coming days as a price reduction has just occurred.
