Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO sold more than 20,000 vehicles in July, breaking a new monthly sales record. The success was driven by its new electric SUV ES6, which broke NIO's monthly sales record for a single model.

New NIO ES6 EV sets monthly sales record in July
NIO launched the second-generation ES6 in May. Despite the car's size, NIO sees big results from the new electric SUV.
The EV maker said in a press release Tuesday that it delivered 20,462 vehicles in July, up 103.6% year-on-year and 91.1% from June. NIO is crediting the new ES6 for its success, which set a new monthly delivery record of more than 10,000.
In the first seven months of the year, NIO delivered 75,023 electric vehicles, bringing the total to 364,579.
The new ES6 is arguably NIO's most important model to date. As a more affordable alternative to the ES8, the ES6 has been NIO's biggest seller since deliveries began in late 2019.

Although NIO was the only major Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer to see sales decline in May, the ES6 boosted demand.
After the ES6 was launched, NIO received nearly 30,000 pre-orders in three days, setting a new record for order intake, according to Chinese consumer behavior research firm CarFans
The new ES6 is based on NIO's NT 2.0 EV platform with enhanced ADAS powered by the NIO Adam supercomputer that uses four Nvidia DRIVE Orin system-on-chips (SoCs).
NIO's flagship stores saw overall foot traffic increase by 30% to 40% month-on-month, with the same momentum continuing into early June.
The new ET5 is NIO’s cheapest electric SUV, starting at RMB 368,000 ($51,600) for the 75 kWh version. The model with the 100 kWh battery costs RMB 426,000 ($59,300), while the battery as a service (BaaS) option is RMB 298,000 ($41,500).
The ES6 wasn't the only factor driving NIO to record sales in July. The EV maker also cut prices on all models by RMB 30,000 ($4,200) in early June, following market leaders like BYD and Tesla.

NIO also launched its first electric station wagon in June, the ET5 Touring, developed for the European market. The ET5 Touring is expected to compete with BMW and Porsche domestically.
ET5 deliveries began in China in mid-June and will begin in Europe by the end of the year, as NIO expands its brand overseas.
