The CEO of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, states that (electric cars) EVs must be affordable and profitable!

The chief executive officer of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, the leader behind brands such as Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Fiat and others, expresses concern for other companies in the automotive industry.
To attract middle-class buyers, EVs need to be priced lower. Tavares emphasizes that the solution is to reduce costs, something Stellantis is good at. He points to more affordable EVs, such as the upcoming Citroen e-C3, which starts at around $25,000 (€23,300), and which Stellantis bills as “the first affordable electric car in Europe.”

The new EVs use a variant of Stellantis’ “Smart Car” platform, which is used in India to offer low prices. According to Automotive News, Tavares says that Stellantis’ electric vehicles are “profitable, both in the US and Europe,” and profit margins on EVs are approaching those of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. In Europe, Tavares says that Stellantis is “going head-to-head” with Tesla in EV sales, with the company’s CFO saying that Stellantis has surpassed Tesla to become the second-largest EV seller in Europe.

Carlos Tavares says the recent agreement with Leapmotor will help produce profitable electric vehicles in Europe. He explains that by partnering with Leapmotor, Stellantis starts with a supply point that is about 30% more cost-competitive than any other option in the Western world.
The company’s leader explains that those who fail to secure profits with electric vehicles will face problems soon.
Stellantis is closing the gap in Europe faster, as Tavares notes, because it started its actions earlier. The company will begin its attack on electric vehicles with many new electric models from the brands Ram, Jeep and Fiat.

Fiat will launch the new Fiat 500e early next year. The new electric car will be one of the most affordable on the market, with starting prices under $33,000. It will also be the lightest electric passenger car on the market, offering up to 149 miles of range. The electric model has already established itself as one of the top-selling electric vehicles in Europe, as Stellantis seeks to make a splash in the United States.
