This change will have advantages, such as compatibility with all chargers, faster data transfer , and improvements in charging speed. On the other hand, it may have some negatives, such as reduced revenue for manufacturers and a potential migration of iOS customers to Android devices.

To make things easier for consumers, Apple plans to include a USB-C cable in the new iPhones, but without a charger. In addition, Apple is looking at 3D Printing technology to manufacture devices, such as a more durable Magic Keyboard for iPads , as well as the completion of iOS 17.

USB-C Transition: Apple had long resisted switching the iPhone charging port from Lightning to USB-C, but a European Union demand forced it to back down. When Apple unveils the iPhone 15 on September 12, it will feature USB-C connections. The benefits of this change include using a single charging cable for iPhones, Macs , and iPads, faster data transfer speeds, faster charging in some cases, and compatibility with non-Apple chargers.

Challenges and Unintended Consequences: While Apple is adopting USB-C, it faces challenges. It could see its revenue shrink from accessory makers using Lightning, and the transition requires investment in technical resources. Increased compatibility with Android devices could encourage customers to switch there. There is also the risk of a public backlash, as customers who already have Lightning accessories will be forced to purchase adapters for the new iPhones.

The 3D Printing technology for device manufacturing represents a significant step for Apple. This approach allows Apple to save materials, creating casings with the required size and reducing waste. Initially, Apple is testing its 3D printing technology with the Apple Watch Series 9 made of stainless steel, and there are plans for the Apple Watch Ultra to be made of titanium. This production method could in the future be applied to iPhones and iPads as well.

Upgraded Magic Keyboard for iPad: Apple is upgrading the Magic Keyboard for iPads, making it more similar to a laptop keyboard. Its case will be made of aluminum, keeping with the look of Mac laptops while offering greater durability. The keyboard will feature a USB-C port and a material cover, similar to the current model. Although aluminum is a lightweight material, there may be a price increase from the current starting price of $300 (~€378).
