Microsoft is announcing the official retirement of WordPad, a basic word processing application that has been ready for retirement for some time.
The company announced this weekend that it will be retiring WordPad, which means: a) that the app will no updates longer and b) that it will be removed in a future version of Windows. It seems that even back then, Microsoft had intended to slowly retire the classic word.

Microsoft noted that it has two products, Microsoft Word and Windows NotePad, that can do even more effectively what WordPad offered users.
“WordPad is no longer being updated and will be removed in a future version of Windows,” the company said. “We recommend Microsoft Word for documents like .doc and .rtf and Windows Notepad for documents like .txt.”
