The Patriot Legal Defense Fund website , created to provide support to former US President Donald Trump , appears to have been compromised by a hacker who carried out a defacement attack . At the time of writing, the website is still defaced .
The Patriot Legal Defense Fund was created about a week ago by senior members of Donald Trump’s campaign in a fundraising. According to the site, the fund’s goal is to help pay for the legal fees of Trump’s political allies and staff. Many of those allies and staff are involved in ongoing legal investigations into the former president and are struggling with legal fees. The Patriot Fund has said it will not pay for legal fees for Trump or his family, but The Daily Beast recently highlighted some potential ethical issues that might be worth looking into.

But in addition to the investigations into Donald Trump, the problem of the Patriot Legal Defense Fund website has now arisen , whichappears to have occurred on Friday. An archived version of the website shows that before the hack, the site displayed Trump's famous phrase: "Make America Great Again". The site called on visitors to help defend Donald Trump by making a (monetary) donation. Now, however, the site says the exact opposite.
The hacker behind the Patriot Legal Defense Fund defacement added “ America Is Already Great ” to the top of the website , crossing out the former President’s name with a red line. He also urges visitors not to support Trump’s fund. In the text he has published on the page we see, the hacker refers to “lies” and characters and talks about the various legal problems Trump is currently facing. For example, at one point he states:
“Donald Trump is facing legal trouble in Georgia. This is the fourth time this has happened. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but if someone keeps getting into trouble, we should think about what that says about their character. Could it be that everyone who is prosecuting him is wrong?“.

At the bottom of the page, the hacker urges visitors to donate to other organizations, such as the ACLU and other liberal organizations. Also, at the bottom of the page, a link to a YouTube about the events of January 6th was added.
What is defacement?
A defacement attack is a type of website vandalismwhere hackers infiltrate the website and replace its content with their own messages. It is usually used to cover up something larger, which is happening in the background, while the messages can carry a political or religious message, inappropriate content, or a notification that the website has been hacked.

Content alteration is usually achieved using SQL injection and logging into the administrator's account. Common targets of defacement attacks are government figures and websites, or religious websites, while the attacks are most often committed by activists (hacktivists), who prefer large pages with many viewers.
