Google Chrome tabs and bookmarks may soon be integrated directly into the search launcher on your Pixel phone. New Chrome flags suggest that the integration could be coming soon. This would make it possible to instantly return to your browsing session without opening Chrome, and could help reduce the number of tabs you have open. It could also make it simpler to find information you've already saved to your bookmarks.

A new flag, called “Integrate with Android App Search,” was spotted by LanceAdams on Telegram. While the Pixel Launcher search experience isn’t always referred to as App Search, Google called it that in a 2021 post introducing the feature in Android 12 , as Mishaal Rahman explains. An earlier version of this flag was even more explicit about what this integration would look like : “Donate tabs and bookmarks to Android App Search.”

While it's likely that such a feature will come to Pixel phones first, Mishaal Rahman speculates that other manufacturers could also integrate it due to the open nature of the App Search module. It's a Project Mainline module in Android 13, which makes it possible for Google to update the system feature without a full system update , similar to how the company has modularized countless other parts of the operating system .

The idea that Pixel Launcher search could be coming to other phones isn't entirely new. Back in 2022, evidence surfaced that Pixel Launcher could allow users to search within more apps and even come to third-party launchers. We haven't heard much about it since then, but the recently discovered Chrome flag and the generalized "App Search" reference make it more likely that a solution will be available more widely.

In the meantime, we found a third-party app that replicates the Pixel search experience on other phones quite well and even adds a few extra features on top.
