Apple Communication Safety: Now available in 6 more countries

Just a few weeks ago, Apple announced that it would be expanding its Communication Safety feature to additional countries. Now, this cutting-edge technology will be available in six new nations around the world!

Apple is proud to announce the expansion of Communication Safety to the Messages app across all platforms. The purpose of this exciting new addition is to notify children when they receive or send photos containing nudity. In just a few weeks, it will be available in six countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Japan, South Korea and Brazil! This information was shared by Apple during an exclusive briefing with news agencies from each country and confirmed by Dutch website iCulture .

After the successful launch of Communication Safety in the United States in late 2021, it quickly spread to Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Within a few months, it was also available in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain!

To ensure the safety of children, Apple has enabled a special Communication Safety that blurs out nudity photos and provides the child with helpful resources. Additionally, they can choose to message someone they trust for help if needed. The entire scanning process takes place on the device without any access from Apple, as messages remain fully encrypted end-to-end. Parents or other guardians are not automatically notified either.

Last December, Apple strengthened its commitment to protecting children online with its Communication Safety. However, after facing backlash from security researchers, policy groups and politicians over the potential for false positives or the possibility of creating a “backdoor” that would allow governments and law enforcement agencies to access photos stored in iCloud Photos, Apple withdrew that plan.
