Many Apple services were experiencing outages for an extended period of time early Monday afternoon.

Services with confirmed issues, according to Apple's system status page, included iMessage, some Apple Maps services, iCloud Mail, iCloud Keychain, the App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV Plus, and Podcasts. But as of around 3:45 p.m. ET, all of the above services were back up and running, and according to the company, the issues have been resolved. Apple has yet to make an official statement about what might have been going on.
Reports of the problems hit Downdetector shortly after 12:00 ET, although they appear to have subsided a few hours after the outage was first reported. Many users experienced iMessage and other essential services outages, although the problems have not affected all users equally.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also reported that Apple's corporate and retail systems are also down — which, according to this tweet, appears to mean that some Apple Store employees had to do their jobs manually.
On the r/sysadmin subreddit, some people reported being unable to log into Apple's enterprise management portal. A tweet from WhatsAppBetaInfo reveals that the issues were also affecting other apps, such as those trying to back up their chat history to iCloud.
