“As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our users safe, Google will no longer allow sign-in on Android devices running Android 2.3.7 or later starting September 27, 2021,” the company says. “If you sign in to your device after September 27, you may receive username or password errors when trying to use Google products and services, such as Gmail, YouTube , and Maps.”

To give you an idea of how old devices we're talking about, Android 2.3.7 was released almost 10 years ago. But given that there are over three billion active Android devices on the market right now, this change will likely affect a lot of people who may still be using older devices.

If you're using Android 2.3.7 or later after the September 27 deadline, you'll be able to use some Google services if you're signed in to your device's browser, according to Google. But devices on Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) will still be able to sign in to Google accounts, the company says, so if your older device can be updated, you might want to do that.
