One of the complex factors is the various forms of genetic engineering. As genomics advances, we will be able to change the course of humanity in the future. More direct forms of genetic manipulation may also become feasible.

Imagine what will happen in the future.
If we assume that these developments will not spread simultaneously, the world will be divided again. Some pursue the goal of «escape velocity» and try to live long enough to discover new treatments for their impending death.

With the constantly increasing ability to search for chemical and electromagnetic alien signals, there may definitely be elements of intelligent life on other planets. Additional forms of life could be created on Earth through artificial general intelligence. You might think it's not a particularly good idea. But if it is possible, someone could do it. The secondary consequences of such progress are difficult to predict, but they will likely change many different aspects of human life, almost the entirety of our work. It is also possible for new and original biological organisms to be created, which could radically destroy a large part of our ecosystem.
More speculatively, there is a small chance that an alien could visit Earth and reveal itself. Given recent UAP (formerly known as UFO) reports from the US government, we give this at least a 1% chance of happening already.

Imagine if all or most of these developments were together for a period of decades. Waiting for them is not merely science fiction.
Even if none of the above happen, these changes are far more radical than the changes that have occurred from 1921 to today. Compared to 1921, we are much richer and safer, but many of the world’s fundamental structures remain roughly the same.
Of course, these developments are inevitable. Another very strange future is entirely possible: we humans use our creative energy for destruction, causing some major and permanent damage to the environment.
In any case, the future is not only about higher wages and new forms of social media. All of this can happen, but it is not the biggest change. When it comes to the future of humanity, you may find that the coming decades are very important for us, our children, and the children of our children.
