Apple has introduced a new app, Find My Certification Asst, designed for developers who want to test how their accessories work. The Find app, which comes pre-installed on iPhone, Mac, and iPad, allows users to find Apple-made accessories, such as AirPods, if they have been misplaced.

The tech giant had announced that it would be allowing third-party Made for iPhone (MFI) accessories to work with the Find My app for the first time at WWDC 2020. Since it is a developer tool, regular Apple users won’t find it in the regular Apple app store. The debut of the test app suggests that Apple may be ready to announce the launch of the third-party device program. Apple will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference from June 7 to June 11.

According to the app description, the Find My Certification Asst app will allow MFi licensees to “test the connectivity and other essential requirements of accessories” that will work with Apple. Third-party developers registered with Apple will be required to have MFi certifications to connect, and the test results will be automatically shared with the company. Remember, the Find My app uses Bluetooth signals from Apple devices even when they’re offline.

A number of companies have already announced products that will be able to integrate with the Find My network. MFi licensee and US manufacturer Belkin announced that the SoundForm Freedom TWS earbuds will support the Find My network. Specifically, the upcoming iOS 14.5 will likely have a new tab called “Items” that will support devices carrying AirTags that have not yet been released and other third-party accessories, such as those from Tile and others.
