Australian -based natural gas provider Kleenheat has warned some of its customers of a data breach that may have led to the exposure of information such as names and addresses.

The Perth , Australia- based natural gas distribution and supply company believes the breach occurred in 2014 on a third-party system . However, it is understood that this system is no longer in use.
"The potential breach was recently identified by Kleenheat during a regular security audit and did not occur on its internal systems," the company said in an email to customers.

Kleenheat referred to the potentially compromised data as “general contact information,” confirming that it included names, home addresses, and email addresses. However, it did not list phone numbers, dates of birth, or banking information, credit card information, and account details as part of the breach.
"Once we identified the issue, we moved quickly to secure the information and discovered no malicious activity associated with it," Kleenheat added.
"Rest assured that we will continue to monitor for potential suspicious activity on our systems." The company said it has contacted the relevant authorities and reported the incident to the Australian Information Commissioner's Office.
