Google announced issues with Chrome updates

Chrome

Google has already announced some cuts to the development of its Chrome browser, and now it looks like things are getting even worse .

As first discovered by ChromeUnboxed, the company announced that due to the current situation due to the coronavirus, the next major version of Chrome will not be released.

And Microsoft has followed Google's lead, confirming that it will cancel the next major release of Edge . Since Edge is now based on the Chromium core , like Google Chrome, Microsoft had no choice. "In light of the current circumstances, the Edge team will stop updating the Stable channel at Edge 81 in accordance with Project Chromium. We are committed to continuing security and stability updates to Edge 80. We will share more about this next week," the company said. Opera , which is also based on Chromium, has not yet released an update on the issue, but it is believed that it is only a matter of time. On the other hand, Mozilla 's Firefox is based on the Gecko core, and we do not yet know whether the company will decide to continue releasing new versions for it or not.

However, yesterday, Google decided to continue releasing updates for Chrome and Chrome OS and announced its new schedule.

The M83 will be released three weeks earlier than planned and will include all the features of the M82, which was canceled.

Canary , Dev, and Beta channels will continue this week, with M83 in Dev and M81 continuing in Beta.

The Stable Channel will continue its release next week with security-related fixes in M80, followed by the release of M81 on April 7th and M83 sometime in mid-May.

We will update you on the M84 release schedule in the future.

M82 is the codename for Chrome 82 and would form the backbone for the next major Chrome upgrade on Windows, Mac, Android, and Chrome OS. All of the features in the release will be migrated to Chrome 83 (M83): Of course, given the current state of affairs, it’s no surprise that Google would make such a move. Chrome feature development may be on hold, but Google will continue to provide security updates for the current version of Chrome, protecting the browser’s robust 2BN userbase.
