Microsoft has started using the Windows 10 Start menu to push Mozilla Firefox users to switch to Edge.
After Microsoft launched Edge, the company started promoting the new browser when typing various keywords into the Windows 10 Start menu.
As a Reddit post, Windows 10 displays a suggestion to switch to Microsoft Edge when Firefox is installed or set as the default browser.
The message appears at the top of the Start menu and says: "Still using Firefox? Microsoft Edge is here.".
Another user also said that he saw the message about switching when he typed Internet Explorer in the Start menu.
Microsoft is definitely very proud of the new Edge browser, as it is faster, more compatible, and offers a wider range of extensions compared to the Microsoft Edge Legacy browser.
Microsoft is known for being a bit more pushy when it wants to push a new product.
For example, in 2016 Microsoft began promoting its Microsoft Edge and Bing through notifications from the Windows 10 taskbar.
Then in 2018, Microsoft began testing a feature in Windows 10 Insider builds that would stop the installation of competing browsers and show an ad promoting Edge.
This tactic of suspending the installation of a browser to promote Edge was unsatisfactory for many users and Microsoft never implemented it.
Disable suggestions in the Windows 10 Start menu
If you don't want Windows 10 to display suggestions like this in the Windows 10 Start menu, you can disable them through Windows.
To do this, go to Settings -> Personalization -> Start and turn off the “Occasional suggestions” option.
Once disabled, Microsoft will no longer present suggestions in the Start menu.
