Recently, Huawei released the source code of openEuler, a Linux based on CentOS. As many had predicted, the source code of openEuler is not available on Github but on Gitee, a Chinese alternative to Github.
There are two components in the source code of the openEuler Linux distribution:
The first is the code source, which is used to store the source code.
The second is the package source, used to store software packages for building the operating system.
Huawei has introduced two specific packages in its blogpost, iSulad and A-Tune. iSulad is a lightweight runtime based on gRPC services and written in C. Its interfaces are OCI compliant and will be used for IoT and Cloud.
A-Tune, on the other hand, is a system software that automatically optimizes the system adaptively across multiple scenarios with a built-in AI-engine.
Additionally, Huawei says it has built these systems on Huawei Cloud through script automation.
Currently, there are about 1,000 software packages on Gitee, and each of them offers ARM64 and x86 architecture versions.
How can you download openEuler Linux Distribution?
If you want to try openEuler, you can download the distribution from Huawei's official website. However, the instructions may be difficult to follow, as they are not yet available in English.
It seems that the openEuler distribution is intended more for Linux enthusiasts than for hobbyists. All that remains to be seen now is how openEuler will be able to compete with other Linux distributions.
