If you try scanning the latest uTorrent installation file on services like Virustotal , you will notice that the popular application “hits” red.
uTorrent Classic, uTorrent Web, and BitTorrent are detected by many antivirus applications as malicious programs. The main version, uTorrent Classic, is detected as malicious by ten antivirus applications: Microsoft Defender, Sophos, Eset Nod32, GData, and Dr.Web.
What is detected? Most security applications report that the torrent client contains “PUA or Potentially Unwanted Applications”.

Windows Defender does not detect or block any unwanted programs by default. You must first enable the option to start checking executable files. Microsoft’s security solution prevented the download of utorrent.exe.
Those who use uTorrent should consider switching to a different torrent client. The qBittorrent or Transmission applications are open source and come without ads and unwanted programs that are added to your computer during installation.
