Rescatux is a live GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian. The distribution includes a graphical wizard for rescuing corrupted GNU/Linux installations.
Apart from this, there are other rescue options available, including restoring the GRUB boot loader after a Windows installation, resetting passwords on Linux and Windows systems, and checking Linux file systems.
The latest development snapshot, Rescatux 0.72 Beta1, is based on Debian 10 Buster and brings several fixes and improvements.
“This is another beta version of Rescatux. This new version has two major fixes: GRUB recovery on distributions that come with tmpfs capability, such as Ubuntu. Some UEFI systems with Secure Boot disabled that were crashing Rescapp no longer crash it.
Finally the Rescapp menu has changed. The UEFI boot menu and the BIOS boot menu work. The xterm package has been added so that external programs can be opened from within rescapp. We moved the testdisk package dependency from Rescapp to Rescatux. The background and boot menus have been improved. We are using Debian Buster which is now officially stable.”
The announcement of the new version contains more details.
