What technology could be used to play the role of a stuntman? Disney is apparently designing and developing robots that can do incredible things.
A article outlines the company’s advances in animatronics. What are they? They’re usually static robots, designed to entertain crowds at Disney theme parks.
But some new animatronics designs seem to be aiming to create robots that are more like acrobats. Yes, you read that right, Disney engineers are building humanoid robots designed to perform aerial stunts. With the help of laser guidance and built-in accelerometers and gyroscopes, these robots can adjust their position in the air, performing perfect flights.
Speaking to TechCrunch, Morgan Pope, a Disney researcher, said that the animatronics’ movement isn’t completely realistic, but it’s obviously not fake either.
But regardless of what the researcher says, the robot's spins in the air are fantastic.
The video below shows you tests of such robots.
