Microsoft recently announced that Sets, the feature that brings tabs to all of Windows 10, will not launch with the next update to the operating system, although the company claimed that it will return at some point in the future after another round of testing the feature.
Little has been said about the reasons behind this decision, and the announcement has disappointed many, especially since Sets was already part of the Windows 10 Redstone 5 previews and, at first glance, it seemed like everything was working smoothly.
But that was only at first glance, as a closer look at the changes that Sets brought revealed that it caused a lot of app compatibility issues that ultimately broke some features in third-party apps.
A report from MSPU reveals that the Reddit are one such example, as removing Sets from the Windows 10 Redstone 5 build returned the apps to normal, with everything working properly after previously being rather unstable.
Additionally, third-party developers are cheering Microsoft's decision to temporarily not release Sets, explaining that their apps sometimes "broke" in the tab implementation.
It's important to keep in mind that Sets isn't a dead feature, but it will be delayed. While Redstone 5 won't include it, there's a good chance the next update in spring 2019 will come with at least similar functionality, though I personally expect tabs to arrive in Windows 10 in a slightly different form and with more options.
Redstone 5 is expected to be released in the fall, with Microsoft's typical release schedule pointing to September as the month in which the update will be completed.
