Adaptive Battery in the latest update Android software Android 9 Pie, does exactly what you'd expect. It saves valuable battery life with just a few settings. It's a relatively new feature, so it may not be performing at its best yet, but let's take a look at how you can make the most of it.
What is adaptive battery?
This is a feature that we first saw in Android 9 and usesArtificial IntelligenceAlphabet's DeepMind This feature predicts the apps you use most often and only allows them to run in the background, while apps you rarely or never use will have stricter restrictions to save battery. What's remarkable is that adaptive battery improves over time, as it learns how often you use and which apps and will classify them accordingly into 4 general categories.
Active, Working_Set, Frequent, Rare.
Categories
- Active: When an app is in this category, there are no restrictions. It uses as many resources as necessary to ensure the best user. These are apps that you open either manually or through notifications.
- Working_Set: Some restrictions apply to these apps.
- Frequent: This category includes some apps that are not necessarily used daily. They are subject to stricter resource and battery restrictions.
- Rare: Rarely used applications include those that have been used very few times, that you may not even remember, and will have the strictest restrictions.
However, which category each app falls into changes depending on how often it's used. For this categorization, you may need to install another app, which is based on machine learning.
How to enable adaptive battery
Usually, the option is enabled by default on Android devices, but if you want to check that it is working you can go to “Settings -> Battery -> Adaptive Battery”.
In closing, let's say that the adaptive battery will definitely save you from some charging and we expect it to get better and better.
