Can I block sites on my Android device?

If you are a parent, you know very well the love of children for technology. This has always been the case and will always be the case, since over the years the new generations that follow are increasingly familiar with technological creations, increasingly tied to the devices that are provided to them. It is certain that the concern of parents and guardians - they cannot be excluded either - is how safe children are with the daily use of the internet via Android mobiles. Is there a way to protect young children, according to their parents' beliefs?

The answer is that obviously it exists and these are the ways we will analyze today!

The most important step of all is for you, as a guardian of a young child, to decide what dangers you want to protect your child from. Certainly the first step is to block sites that you do not approve of via the Firefox browser. Especially when we are talking about your personal Android devices, the process is very easy.

  1. Open Firefox and go to the three dots, i.e., the menu.
  2. Select add-ons and then search the recommended Firefox extensions on the lower side of the pages.
  3. Search for BlockSite from the search bar located at the top of the page. Add to Firefox.
  4. A pop-up window will appear with the permissions. If you agree, accept the requested ones.
  5. You will then be taken to the BlockSite menu. There you will block sites, simply by entering the URL of the site you wish not to appear on your device.

To be sure of the protection provided to your child, it would be advisable to uninstall or disable other browsers that your device may contain.

If, however, the above process confused you a bit, you'll be happy to know that there is another solution. You can block sites via an app.

Android

  • Google Household Hyperlink is an application that allows you to block sites in Chrome and also restrict access to adult apps and content on Google Play.

Android

  • BlockSite BlockSite has password security, so you can lock the app and sync desktop and Android.

Android

  • Development Micro has created the Cellular Safety & Antivirus program. With it, you can provide your Android with online security, in addition to parental control. Unfortunately, parental control is paid, but you can try the 14-day free package before deciding to buy it.

Another way to protect your child when using your Android is OpenDNS. This service provides reliable filtering, and even children who can bypass the procedures in this case will not succeed. How does it work? By default, when you connect to Wi-Fi, you use the DNS server, but you can swap it for OpenDNS. It will mechanically filter out all inappropriate material. The problem with OpenDNS is that you cannot use it outside of your declared home area.
